GHS Cares Pet Food Bank Distributes 2,000th Meal
Two years after launch, our community pet food bank has hit a milestone — and the need keeps growing.
When we launched the GHS Cares pet food bank in spring 2024, we hoped to distribute maybe 500 meals in our first year. This week, we handed out our 2,000th — to a Guelph family of four whose dog Buddy had been quietly losing weight while the family stretched a tight grocery budget.
GHS Cares operates by referral from social services, but no proof or documentation is required at pickup. We will never ask why. Our only goal is to keep families and their pets together through tough patches.
Demand has grown 80% year-over-year. We are actively seeking food donations (especially dry kibble, both adult dog and adult cat formulas) and monetary support to expand the program to a second weekly pickup window.
