New Building Campaign: $4.2M to Modernize Our 1970s Shelter
After two years of planning, GHS has publicly launched the "Unleashing Hope" capital campaign to renovate our shelter and triple our medical capacity.
Today, GHS proudly announces the public launch of the Unleashing Hope capital campaign — a $4.2 million effort to renovate our 50-year-old shelter, expand our medical suite from one to three exam rooms, and add a dedicated cat colony space and behavioural recovery wing.
Lead gifts from the Macdonald Stewart Foundation, the City of Guelph, and several anonymous donors have already brought us to $2.8 million — 67% of our goal. We are now turning to the broader community to help close the remaining $1.4 million.
"Our current building has served us well, but it was built for a city of 70,000," said Board Chair Dr. Mei-Ling Chen. "Guelph is now 144,000 strong, with rural Wellington County animals also coming through our doors. This expansion is overdue, and the need is urgent."
